OCZ's PowerStream Gets to 600W [10/28/2004 08:25 AM]by Anton Shilov OCZ Technology, a company that is mostly known for its memory modules, but that attracts more and more attention to other components of PCs, has released its new PowerStream power supply unit with power throughput hiked to 600W, which makes the new product one of the most-powerful in the world.“The OCZ PowerStream power supplies are the most versatile, most adaptable and quietest PSUs available on the market today. The new 600W edition is equipped with all the features of previous OCZ power supplies, but now includes additional features to add more versatility than the 420/470/520W PowerStream power supplies,” OCZ said in the statement. Each OCZ PowerStream PSU includes the PowerFlex feature for fine-tuning the three independently adjustable power rails (12V, 5V, 3.3V). An LED indicator sits below all three adjustment dials. In addition, the OCZ PowerStream product line is equipped with OCZ’s ConnectAll universal connector for ATX, Serial ATA, P4, EPS12V and BTX requirements. Besides, OCZ’s PowerStream power supplies are outfitted with the company’s special set of filters that provide stabilized input current and substantially filter out “ripple” and electrical noise. In addition to PowerStream’s exclusive features, such as the ultra-quiet PowerWhisper, PowerFlex, and stabilizing PowerShield technology, the more powerful 600W power supply includes ATX12V 2.01, sleek, black cable sleeving, a PCI Express connector as well as 220V Active PFC (International version only). While 600W PSUs may seem too powerful for conventional computers, high-end machines that feature two processors, two graphics cards, a number of HDDs and CD/DVD burners do require advanced power supply units, which is why 600W may become relatively popular product for computer enthusiasts. X-bit labs’ laboratories currently use 520W and 550W PSUs for testing modern hardware.OCZ’s PowerStream power supplies are all backed by a 5-year PowerSwap warranty and return program; any PSU returned within the first 3 years is immediately replaced with a new unit, eliminating lengthy return-for-repairs episodes. The product is also protected with an additional two year limited warranty.
