The PowerShield line of backsheets manufactured by the company will now include PowerShield PV270 that is 30% lighter in weight than most of the conventional backing systems utilized in solar module while it continues to offer similar level of security and insulation offered by conventional backing materials. The construction of PV270 is modified to enable optimal use of backsheet thus facilitating the usage of a system for a longer duration and reduced shutdown periods required for changing backsheets. The system incorporates two outer layers consisting of fluoro- polymer film and a patented, unique polyolefin thermoplastic. A polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer is inserted in between the outer films. The inner layer is fixed to the outer layers utilizing a patented bonding system. The PowerShield backing system endures harsh, humid temperature conditions and shields the electrical components kept inside the solar panel to avert power loss and shorting problems. The backing system stops penetration of UV rays and the consequences of freeze and melt conditions. The systems are basically designed for the use of crystalline silicon cell photovoltaic modules that normally have a lifetime of around 25 years. The PowerShield PV270 received the TUV Rheinland certification for meeting the IEC 1000 volt standards. The modules outperformed the criteria set for PV modules under the IEC 61215 EU.
