Patagonia Northwall Jacket Reviews: Positive Reviews:Northwall Jacket 1st wearToday I wore my brand new Northwall jacket on a 12 mile run here in western Massachusetts on a 28 degree day with 20 mph steady wind. With the wind chill it was about 12 degrees. I wore the equivalent of a very light weight capilline long sleeve T under it, with hat and gloves and wind-resistent running tights. Hat and gloves came off by mile 4, jacket halfway unzipped by mile 5. No wind gets through this jacket and it breaths well, althought there was plenty of sweat inside after 12 miles. I will not wear it again for running unless it's well under 10 degrees with the wind. Very warm jacket. Generous hood that I didn't need until cool down. Great green color - traffic definitely gives you room. Patagonia advertises this one right: extreme cold conditions. I could put one more layer underneath - like an R! hoody - but the slim feet is indeed slim for my 5'10" 165 lb frame. Front pockets hold gloves and hat and could also hold 1-2 energy bars. Thank you Patagonia. I'll wear it in the White Mountains where it's a lot colder next time.Mico at Patagonia on 01/14/2012like it5'10, 178-180 ... I wear a M in pata jackets pretty much across the board. My chest is about 41". The "slim" fit of this jacket made it just a tad restrictive in the chest area with anything on under it. i.e. i could have worn a cap1 under it but that would be it. I wanted the option to put something substantial under it(cap3+ R1hoody, for example) so I went with a Large... While it is a little bigger than i would like, it leaves me with more options on the mountain. Fabric, finish all awesome. Very tough PSP fabric, breathable... The R2 like liner is perfect. Ill use my guide hoody for warmer days (I use an M in that btw...don't need room for much under it). All in all a very solid jacket that serves its purpose well. (active pursuits in cold weather) alpine, ice climbing, XC ski, ski... If you are going to be still in this for any period of time in the cold you will want a belay jacket or shell... something to seal in the heat because as I said this does breath...long rambling review over...--azazrockclimber at Patagonia on 09/03/2012Polartec Power Shield Pro is some amazing stuff. I rock and ice climb in this jacket and have yet to permanently scuff or mar it. Light drizzle and snow can't seem to penetrate it. Line the Polartec with fur and you have a really great cold weather jacket, though gusty wind will blow right on through. Otherwise the Northwall tends to be a much warmer soft shell than a lot of people are used to. The fit is slim and trim. At 165lbs. 5-10, the medium fits me very nicely, though the sleeves are a bit long. BUT, I will take too long sleeves over too short sleeves any day. This jacket is a great stand alone piece for active days in the cold. Stand still too long and your heat will leak out. The hood cinches down nicely and tends to stay put, even though the toggles and cords that hold the hood in place seem weak.Worn as a heavy base layer - the hood (which fits really well by itself) is too bulky to work under a shell (IMHO).Over all I'm digging this jacket.John T Young at Backcountry.com on 02/12/2012Heft?When I first ordered this jacket I thought it was going to be slightly thicker or heftier than it is. I thought the R2 inside was going to be more substantial but it turns out to be a slight liner. For me, however, this works well, as I can start off with more layers and remove them as I heat up. It's a very thin jacket and does breathe well. Though it does fit snugly as a result of the slim fit, one can wear a t-shirt or capilene along with a R1 pullover easily. I tried wearing the jacket with a bulky hoody and it fit well, except for the sleeves, which didn't have as much room in them. One gets pretty good range of motion in it. I find myself wanting additional pockets on the sides, because I instinctively seek side pockets, which are not there. Overall though, if you're seeking a jacket to hold up in aerobic activities, this should do nicely.cumhuriyet1 at Patagonia on 02/14/2012This jacket rocks-I love it for super cold days in the mounttains when your having high output but its so cold that it really doesnt matter. To me, this jacket excels when its 15 degrees F or colder. It is super warm, has a very breathable membrane in it. It can feel down right breezy at times its so breathable.I think PowerShield pro is about as good as it gets for a membrane. Neoshell isnt breathable enough IMO-no true waterproof membrane is. It will always accumulate sweat. This jacket is mostly waterproof, nearly windproof. YOu will fill the wind on days when the wind is really whipping and its super cold. The sleeves are cut longer-actually fit better than the arc'teryx venta sv. I prefer this jacket to the venta sv in many ways due to longer arms, warmer and more breathable. This could be considered a mix between the arc'teryx hyllus and the venta sv.Sadly patagonia discontinuing this model-get it while you can.utah whatchamacallit at Backcountry.com on 09/27/2013The Northwall Jacket is my go-to softshell jacket for winter climbing. It has a durable, soft outer to resist abrasion and rips from hooking ice tools and scumming your back in corners on mixed routes. The two Napolean pockets work well for stashing a camera or snacks and keeps them above the harness, but I'd rather see them as high normal pockets, because it would be more feasible to warm your hands in them. The fit is a regular cut, so it fits a bit larger than other alpine climbing softshells, though the size is still true to other Patagonia products; I'm 5'9" 140 lbs. and the small fits with layering room (I wear my R1 Hoody and Windshirt underneath, and will add a synthetic pullover if the temps really drop). The insulation is the high-loft fleece and feels both warm and comfortable.Micah L at Backcountry.com on 01/01/2013Awesome!I love this jacket. The fit is awesome. It has a very nice fitted look. I like how it looks so much that I decided that instead of using it for climbing I would keep it nice and use it for casual wear. I have never really had a jacket that keeps me warm till this one. I love the polar fleece lining. It is very cosy. Being warm while everyone around me shivers is a first for me (i am skinny and usually I am the one shivering in cold weather). I highly recommend this jacket. I haven't used it for climbing or skiing, so I can't attest to its performance in those setting but I don't doubt it would do great in those conditions as well. I have had it for a year now.cbean at Patagonia on 11/02/2012One Of My FavesI've owned this jacket for almost a year now and it has become one of my favorites. I agree with some of the other reviewers that having hand pockets would be a nice touch, but that's not what this jacket is for. I've gotten used to the pockets and actually find them convenient to take things in and out of them when your active. The Jacket has a great fit. Nice and snug, perfect for cooler weather, but not too cold. Especially if you don't intend on doing any physical activity with it on. I love putting it on with a thin layer underneath. the lining feels great with a t-shirt on underneath. All-in-all I couldn't be happier. Craftsmanship is also top notch.Jung at Patagonia on 02/22/2013Slim Fit = AwesomeThis is a great jacket. Not so much for powder days but the fit is top notch! Good looking and comfortable. It could use some work. As mentioned the front pockets are only for holding maps, keys, phone etc. You cannot fit your hands in the pockets unless you cross your arms. I love the r2 fleece interior, but it would be nice if it allowed clothes to slide a little more easliy. If i wear a long sleeve shirt, it often doesnt slide into the sleeve very well, a common issue is many jackets. Still recommend though, this is one of my favorite jackets. Best fitting jacket I have ever owned. 6'4" 200lbs, long arms, bought a large.prestone at Patagonia on 07/19/2012Epic SoftshellThis shell is far and above any other I have had before. The waffled fleece liner makes this the warmest soft shell I have had the privilege to own. Accented with a down layer underneath, this shell sheds the wet, wind and snow on long powder days, as well as keeping me toasty while standing stagnant on bitter cold range days. This shell was to replace a mountain guide jacket purchased years ago, and is more than a superior evolution. Negatively the front pockets seem to have been made with out any real attention to function or practicality. They offer no solice for cold hands, and could be described as backwards? Overall, my favorite shell, 4/5.Beelzebob at Patagonia on 01/26/2013Show all positive reviews...Neutral Reviews:Great jacket, poor pocket bag designThis is a great jacket overall, but not having the pocket bags stitched down somehow is a major design oversight, the pocket bags flop around inside the jacket, so much so that I will stitch them myself. They are a major distraction in a pretty expensive jacket. I would still recommend the jacket , but be wary of the pockets.GFresh at Patagonia on 01/28/2013 Add your own review Back to Top Clothing & FootwearMen's ClothingMen's FootwearWomen's ClothingWomen's FootwearBoy's ClothingBoy's FootwearGirl's ClothingGirl's FootwearKid's ClothingKid's FootwearInfant's & Toddler's ClothingInfant's & Toddler's FootwearEyewearGear & EquipmentElectronicsHiking & CampingBoating & MarineClimbingHuntingFishingTacticalOfficeAuto & ATVMusical InstrumentsSportsBaseballBasketballBilliardsBowlingBoxingCyclingFootballDisc GolfGolfHockeyRacquetballSoccerTennisVolleyballWinter SportsSkiingSnowboardingSnow SportsFitness & ActivitiesFitnessWater SportsSkateboardingAirsoft & PaintballOther SportsTravel Other All Brands Top Products Buying Guides Included Stores Other Recommended Products Patagonia Winter Sun Hoody $179.97 - $299.00 39% off Patagonia Knifeblade Pullover $208.99 - $349.00 40% off Patagonia R4 Jacket $129.50 - $279.00 50% off Mammut Ambler Hooded Down Jacket $189.96 - $329.95 42% off Patagonia DAS Parka $298.95 - $299.00 Marmot Zion Jacket $192.50 - $385.00 50% off Patagonia Solar Wind Jacket $124.50 - $249.00 50% off Patagonia Mixed Guide Hoody $193.99 - $299.00 35% off Patagonia Piolet Jacket $179.37 - $329.00 45% off Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket $142.94 - $199.00 28% off Follow us on Twitter - FAQ - Contact Us - Privacy Policy - Terms of Service - About GearBuyer.com © 2012 InfoGears Inc.
