Melee ArticleEditDiscuss Edit ArticleHow to Play as Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. Melee Edited by Chris, Flickety, Rob S, Warp82596 and 18 others This is a guide to tell you how to use Captain Falcon efficiently in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Ad Steps 1Move fast. Captain Falcon is a very fast character. Ad 2Know all of Falcon's moves, grabs, and range by heart. His left\right B attack is vaguely efficient to get the enemy up in the air to start combos, it should probably only be used for tech chasing. Use this attack to attempt to get back onto the stage only if you are close enough; otherwise, it will result in a fall to your death. Falcon's regular B move may seem unimpressive, but timing it right you can do serious damage. Despite that benefit, it really is horrible. There is no good way to cancel it. It leaves you wide open, especially if your opponent knows it's coming. Use it during melees where opponents may already be distracted, but never anytime else. 3Use Falcon's Up+B to get back on the stage. If you are high enough however, you can use the Falcon kick to get an extra jump. Avoid using this move in battle unless you are sure it will hit because you are extremely vulnerable when you land and while you land. 4Falcon has many combo moves. These would be his Side B, up air, neutral air, forward air (weak knee), standard A move (not rapid fire, just the punch punch knee), down air (when they are on the ground), down tilt, and up smash. Also, his down throw and up throw are pretty good for comboing. Use whichever is good for your situation, and remember to try to combo as much as you can into a finisher. Falcon also has good finishers. These would be his forward air (strong knee), back air, down air (while they are off the edge), down smash (either part), side smash, and up tilt. Note that some of his combo moves can also potentially kill opponents (knock them far away so they can't recover). The main one you should focus on however is the knee (strong). 5Wavedash. Wavedashing is especially effective with captain falcon, because he's so fast that it's nearly impossible to tell which direction he's facing at any one time. Use this to pull off a surprise grab or a neutral air, and combo from there. Ad Know another method for How to Play as Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros. Melee? Add it here... 1. Add Method Tips Get them in the air to knee them. If you get knocked really far away from the stage and end up in the top-left/right region of the screen, double-jump and then Falcon Kick to gain a second jump. The knee doesn't necessarily have to hit with the opening frames (electric knee). When the enemy is returning, a simple nudge would probably seal their fate, and keep you safe enough to make it back. Know all 6 ways to get from the edge to the battlefield (roll, attack, jump, stand, aerial attack, waveland to ground move). Chasing... If you smash your opponent don't be afraid to chase them... "Flying Knee Bash" in the air "Forward + A" Can send opponents flying at roughly 100 damage and can rocket easily. If his side-B is used on any opponent in the air, it knocks them straight down, this can used to score an instant kill but requires a lot of practice. Practice the advance techniques. Avoid practicing purely against computers. Computers fall for many things, and you can easily kill them off the edge (they don't recover as fast). Also, a CPU is programmed to act a certain way whilst a human can adapt. Also, CPUs play much differently, making the stupidest mistakes, or executing moves with absurd precision (they jab or grab you just as you attack to interrupt you, and they PowerShield roughly 20% of the time!) so you would get accustomed to how they play and not what a human would try and do. Dash Dancing... Mindgames are your friend! Tap the control stick left and right rapidly to dash dance. Use this to keep the opponent guessing, as falcon has one of the best dash dances. Edgehogging... Falling off and grabbing on prevents others from doing so but also Falcon punch is a nifty deterrent for would be climbers... Falcon knee prevents most people from coming back... Moonwalking... Advanced move that can be done with Falcon by running forward and then doing a half circle down and back. It has its uses, but is mostly for flashy players. Ad Warnings Captain Falcon falls pretty fast so try to attempt to get back onto the stage before you fall to your death. "Falcon Punch" takes a while to charge, so use it only when you know it will hit. If you use your Left/Right B button close to the edge, and your target jumps, you can fall off without any jumps! Be careful! Prepare to suicide A LOT when you first learn to play Falcon. Especially regarding the last tip, if you miss the opponent you will die. The character will not you. Captain Falcon can be edgeguarded VERY easily. He also has major difficulty sweet spotting the edge (some argue that it is not even possible).
