Award-winning gloves you may not know about from the guys at Montane, out now too. Tweet Posted: 7 October 2011by Jon The two-part Resolute Mitt - inner is pile/Pwertex with lobster claw design ideal for glove-wearing crustaceans with a credit card. Outers are taped eVent. And the new top-end Resolute Glove - waterproof and lined with pile on the palm and PrimaLoft on the knuckle side. Apex Award-winning Sabretooth glove complete with it's glass award trophy from Tiffany's. Finally the PowerShield Grip glove. Those knuckles are padded with Neoprene, should be good for clumsy ice axe use and punching the odd stroppy walrus... While we were checking out Montane's new insulation kit for this autumn the other day, we also realised, somewhat belatedly, that the Northumberland-based brand also makes gloves, so here's a quick preview of some new ones for this winter. The Resolute Mitt (erm, not new) The Resolute Mitt appeared last winter and is a serious bit of handwear. The outer is made from taped eVent complete with a Hypalon-reinforced palm and a nose-wipe – nowt worse than snot on your ice axe – while the inner is a cunning Lobster-claw design for added dexterity and is made from Pertex with a pile inner. Looks very neat and effectively two gloves in one since you can use the inner alone, or layer the outer over other inners if you want to. It retails for £80. The Resolute Glove (which is new) For this winter, the mitt gets a five-fingered stable-mate in the shape of the Resolute Glove. Despite sharing a name, it;'s actually made quite differently from the mitt. Instead it has a soft shell Granite Stretch outer with a waterproof lining made from Freeflow – then on the inside there back of the hand is insulated with 80z PrimaLoft fill, while the palm uses pile. The idea is that the pile is, we think, less slippery when holding tools, poles and so on and, with use, moulds to the shape of your hand. The fingers are also pre-curved and the palm is resinforced with waterproof leather. Looks like a serious winter glove. It's one piece mind, rather than the two-piece inner and outer construction used for the mitt. Out now-ish and priced at £60. Sabretooth Glove Slightly less gnarly, but looking good for all-round, dry-ish condition mountain use is the Sabretooth, PowerShield, soft shell mountain glove which is made from Polartec's excellent very breathable but protective PowerShield. It gets a brushed tricot lining for warmth plus a leather palm for durability and a seam-free lower wrist to work well with both ice tool leashes and trekking poles. There's a snot-wipe too. Polartec liked it so much that they gave the Sabretooth one of their coveted Apex awards for best use of Polartec fabrics. And look, we even have a pic of the award, which was made by top jeweller, Tiffanys. So now you know... PowerShield Grip Glove Finally, another glove using the PowerShield, but with added Neoprene padded knuckles for, erm, knuckle protection on those desperate ice routes, plus a Clarino artificial leather but grippy palm and clear silicone grip patches on the thumb and the first two forefingers. Look like versatile all-rounders with added protection for your ice-climbing or winter bike-crashing adventures.
